Bridal Challenge Week Three: Gold Tone

My skills with a crochet needle have not evolved since I was six, but this is good news for anyone who might like to use the wire crochet technique in jewelry-making.  It is THAT SIMPLE.

My favorite part of this necklace is definitely the unique shade of the freshwater pearls, but the crystals give it great sparkle.  This design prompted me to look around for the perfect dress.  Since it is  longer than some of the others (23 inches), it calls for a deeper neckline.  I think it would look lovely with the dress below!

Bridal Challenge Week Three

Lately, I have been crazy for seed beads.  This week's challenge should get me out of that rut!  I was thinking about the fact that I have a strong preference for silver tones in my jewelry, but that wasn't the case when I got married.  My own bridal jewelry was a three-strand choker of pearls with a gold clasp.  My gift from my groom was a beautiful gold chain with a dainty pearl and diamond pendant.  (I'm smiling right now, just thinking about them!)  So, I began to rummage through my jewelry stash for gold tones for this week.  (There was not a lot to choose from!)  Here's what I found: gold-toned wire, crystal bicones, and a strand of freshwater pearls that included a gorgeous champagne-gold hue.  See you soon with my creation!

Vintage Fresh

Vintage beads from a broken necklace! Even though the finish on these plastic beads was worn, they were irrestistible. They had organic shapes, but an electric color! I played with some color combinations and decided that less was way more!

First, I made a focal pendant by wire-wrapping one of the "crumpled" beads. Next, I used a more substantial wire than I have previously to crochet new aqua seed beads together with glass bicones and faceted plastic beads that were rescued from a stuffy black vintage necklace.Note to self: Plastic crochet hooks do not stand up well to the lower gauge wire. Invest in an aluminum one.
